A home for an Emirati family rooted into the UAE context
Architecture:
The architecture embraces simple geometric forms, echoing traditional Emirati culture principles such as privacy while integrating contemporary elements.
The typical simple form of a cubic shape was re-examined and re-enacted to create a play between projections and setbacks.
Creating carved openings and overhangs as shade mechanisms and triggering a further interaction between shadow and depth.
Large carved openings show glimpses of the inside world, but still maintain privacy due to orientation and massing configuration.
Materiality:
The choice of materials reflects the natural landscape of the UAE, with earthy tones dominating the color palette. Local materials such as sandstone, limestone, and clay are used for both exterior and interior finishes.
Traditional materials are juxtaposed with modern materials like large glass panels, creating a dialogue between past and present.
